What turns your light on? What truly lights your fire? What thoughts make you leap out of bed at 3am fully excited?! If you know … great!! If you think you know, confirm it to yourself. If you have no idea make it a priority to discover (prayerfully and practically) what turns your light on. It is planted in your heart (not your head!) somewhere. Search hard until you find it. It may take a while but its worth it. Just keep looking. Knowing “what makes you tick” is worth more than all the gold in the world! “For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 How do you discover your inner dream? Look over your life (including childhood) and re-live those undeniable peak experiences where you were enlightened and fulfilled. Write those treasured moments down. Years ago I sat my kids down and read out all the headings in the Yellow Pages index. I got them to say ‘no’ to the headings they were not interested in. Three weeks later I went with them through the remaining headings where they chose the seven they liked best. Now they had something of substance to work with. This simple method works for adults too! “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 Why? Passion leads to vision. Vision leads to purpose. Purpose has intention, stick-ability and effortlessness. Your heartfelt passion is your essential fuel (98 octane) for those long, lonely and often difficult miles of leading a business. No heartfelt passion and you are in danger of running out of fuel! A business will be much stronger and sustainable if it is built around the owner’s heartfelt passion. “And Jesus said to him, what do you want Me to do for you?
